A lot of times, the hardest part of anything is getting started. The same goes for being a music producer! It can be daunting to get into something you’ve never tried before, but the best thing you can do is just get started and go for it.
While becoming comfortable with music production can take a long time, your hard work will eventually begin to pay off!

Below are five tips for brand new music producers who are just getting started.

1. Don’t be afraid to experiment

If you’re just getting started, then don’t feel as if you have to decide on a genre right away! You might even discover a passion for a new genre while learning music production. However, once you decide on a direction to take, it’s best to stick with it while you’re learning so that you can become as comfortable as possible in the genre and/or style of your choice.

2. Figure out who your inspirations are and use them to your advantage

Being a music producer is very different than being a passive music listener. Artists and genres that you frequently listen to will begin to influence you and the way that you write music. Figure out who you are most inspired by, and study, study, study! Sometimes, producers will share secrets about their sound on their social media, so pay attention and take notes whenever possible.

3. Take your time

It seems like everyone is a music producer these days, but that doesn’t mean it happens overnight. Musicians take years (and years) to perfect their crafts, so the more patient you are, the longer you’ll be able to sustain yourself. View tutorials, consider taking classes, research tips and tricks and stay calm! You got this.

4. Stand Out

Once you figure out what you want to sound like, it’s time to create an identity for yourself. Figure out what makes you different, and run with it! It’s easy to blend in with what everyone else is doing, but only you can do what you’re doing. Don’t be afraid to do something different–it could pay off big time!

5. Work, work, work!

Once you start learning music production, you’ll need to spend a lot of time learning and growing. Just like anything else, you’ll need to put your 10,000 hours in. Don’t be afraid of failing, and keep on going. We believe in you!
