Spotify is first to 100 million paid subscribers
More than 100 million users worldwide now pay for Spotify Premium, the company has announced. Spotify reached the milestone by growing paid subscribers by 32-percent year-on-year. Including free subscribers, Spotify now has a total of 217 million monthly active users worldwide. That includes two million Indian users who joined after the company launched its service there in February.

Music’s biggest stars are women. Music festivals would make you think otherwise.
Music festival lineups are heavily male, but some women are trying to change that.
The industry’s most in-demand and popular performers right now are women — Ariana Grande has dominated the Billboard charts in 2019. Beyoncé has signed a $60 million Netflix deal that will see her put out two more specials in addition to her recently released concert film Homecoming. Billie Eilish is a teenage phenomenon. Yet not only is it rare to see a female artist in the headlining spot on a poster, it’s rare to see any but the most well-established female artists perform at a festival the first place; a 2018 survey by Pitchfork found that women make up only 19 percent of the average lineup.

Weekly Vinyl Record Sales Surge to 827,000 Following Record Store Day — a Brand-New ‘Record’
Nielsen Music says this year’s Record Store Day — held on April 13th — was the third-largest sales week for vinyl albums since 1991 (the first year the company started publishing stats). More than 827,000 vinyl records were sold during the past week, with 673,000 coming from independent record stores.
The sales total beats the previous high set by 2018’s Record Store Day week at 533,000. Seeing the trend here?
