Apple Shutting Down iTunes

For almost 2 decades, iTunes has been the way Apple users listen to music, watch movies and TV shows, listen to podcasts and manage their devices. It was a creation that revolutionized how we access music.

A New Era

As time went on, consumers complained of the app becoming too cluttered while requiring too much computing power to operate. The complaints have been consistent for years, and now, the life of iTunes has come to an end. Apple has moved into a new era. The future of iTunes is not just one app, but three.

The company has decided to replace iTunes with three new, separate apps: Music, TV, and Podcasts.

“As Apple looks to smooth out its revenue and focus more on services, it has turned the focus towards initiatives such as Apple Music, which has more than 50 million paying subscribers and lets users access more than 45 million songs for $9.99 a month.” says Fox News.

Similarly stated in The Verge, “Apple is focusing on services to augment its hardware sales, so giving people a specific app to find specific content follows the company’s trajectory and new subscription offerings.”

What does that mean for Apple users?

Don’t panic, users will still be able to manage their devices through the new Music app. Another plus side, the iTunes app won’t annoyingly pop up whenever you plug in your phone. *cue sigh of relief*

Additionally, Symphonic currently has no indication that download purchases will be going away from what was formerly iTunes and is now Apple Music.

Apple executives finally realized that more isn’t always better, and it was time for a change. This minimization of how you view your services and applications will make navigating through your content easier than ever before.
