Deezer’s Newest Feature Lets Users Add Song Lyrics to Instagram Stories
You’ve heard of Instagrammers carefully choosing the perfect song lyrics to caption their photos. Now, music streaming service Deezer is helping users add lyrics that fit their mood directly to Instagram Stories with a few taps.
Starting today (June 19), Deezer users can instantly post up to five lines of song lyrics from the streamer’s 53 million tracks by tapping a new “Lyrics” symbol within the streaming app’s mobile player, then selecting and cropping verses. Once the user is satisfied, they’ll be redirected to Instagram Stories to post their lyric selection right away.

Fake Streams Are Costing Artists $300 Million a Year, Indie Label Estimates
Streaming platforms are growing exponentially, but is all of that growth organic? Indie labels are increasingly worried about the legitimacy of their streaming numbers.
Indie Week was held this past week and featured some interesting panels from artists, producers, and indie labels. One panel featured Louis Posen, founder of Hopeless Records, discussing a concern all indie labels face.
Posen said he believes his company’s streaming numbers were subject to illegitimate streams. One particular track in question was earning around 3,000 streams per day. Then that number jumped up to 35,000 streams for a day for three days, before abruptly returning to its previous numbers.

Instagram began allowing users to share album covers and Spotify links to music on their stories in May 2018. But in recent months, the feature has grown increasingly popular. More and more, it seems that Instagram is becoming a place for discovery, while Spotify is more the place you go to listen and catalog those discoveries.

Some Spotify Users Frustrated With Recent Update, Moving to Apple Music Instead
One week ago today Spotify launched a revamped “Your Library” tab that the company said was “designed to get you to the content you want faster.” According to Spotify subscribers on r/Spotify, this update has done the complete opposite and made navigating large music libraries nearly impossible, with the main purpose apparently made to promote Spotify’s burgeoning interest in podcasts.

The Music Industry Successfully Shuts Down Convert2MP3
The music industry continues to score victories in its fight against major music pirates.
Starting a major offensive against music piracy several months ago, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has managed to shut down numerous popular websites.
In mid-March, for example, the major music industry organization shut down YouTubNow. Following a single subpoena request at the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, the YouTube stream-ripper quickly disappeared, with users unable to rip their favorite music.
