Billboard’s Parent Company Is Buying Nielsen’s Music Business
Valence Media, the parent company of famed entertainment-industry publication Billboard, is acquiring the music-industry data, software and analytics business of Nielsen Holdings Plc, according to people familiar with the situation.
The transaction would bring the music industry’s top chart and data providers under one roof. It’s expected to close later this year at a price in the eight-figure range, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the purchase hasn’t yet been announced.

Apple Launches Apple Music on the Web Beta
Apple today launched a new Apple Music web experience, which is available to all users in a beta capacity.
The Apple Music website is similar to the Apple Music app on Macs, offering up dedicated “For You,” “Browse,” and Radio” sections, along with playlists, recommendations, and more.

THE UNITED STATES IS ABOUT TO BECOME A $10BN RECORDED MUSIC MARKET AGAIN – FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2007
Music fans in the United States are making it rain.
New stats confirmed by the RIAA today (September 5) show that, on a retail basis – i.e. the money spent on streaming subscriptions, as well as physical and digital music – the US record industry generated $5.39bn across all formats (plus sync) in the first six months of this year.
That was up by $822m (or +18%) on the equivalent H1 figure from 2018 ($4.56bn), which in turn was up by $383m (+9%) on the RIAA’s retail figure for H1 2017 ($4.18bn).
In fact, the US record industry – on a retail basis – is collectively now turning over more than $200m every week, and approximately $30m every day.

Tinder, Live Nation to Offer Concert Tickets For Dating App Users
Tinder and Live Nation have announced a new initiative called “epic first dates,” giving $30 all-in concert tickets for people who use the dating app. The partnership will give people the opportunity to purchase discounted tickets for 12 tours across the U.S. including performances from Meek Mill & Future, The Chainsmokers, Logic, A$AP Ferg and more.
