Get To Know Nation of Language:
Self-described as a ‘Working Class Synth-Pop’ outfit, Brooklyn-based, art-rock auteurs, Nation of Language entered 2020 as one of the most heralded new acts of recent memory, having already earned high-praise from the likes of NME, FADER, Pitchfork, Stereogum, and countless others for their ability to blend the upbeat with a healthy dose of sardonic melancholy. Inspired by the early new-wave and punk movements, the band has quickly earned a reputation for delivering frenzied nights of unconventional bliss to rapt audiences, and establish themselves as bright young stars emerging from a crowded NYC landscape.
While remaining fully independent and unsigned, their debut album, “Introduction, Presence” went on to be labeled as one of the top albums of the year by a wide variety of outlets. Now, they’ve returned with a tandem of blistering new singles, “A Different Kind of Life” & “Deliver Me From Wondering Why” to cap off a banner year for the group.
“Deliver Me From Wondering Why” is a companion piece to their recent single, “A Different Kind of Life”, with both tracks produced by Holy Ghost!’s Nick Millhiser in the fall of 2020.
In the words of NoL member, Ian, “This song first started to come together in the early days of the Trump administration, but was never quite finished and got a bit lost as time went by. Rediscovering it during the pandemic with both political and public-health contexts provided the push to finish it off, as we find ourselves not merely in search of humane political leadership but of an ability to gather and interact with one another as we did before. I seriously hope that by the time it comes out it’s slightly less politically relevant than it was when I first wrote it, but defeating Trump is really just step 1 in moving this country forward.”
Their new single, “Deliver Me From Wondering Why” has been released alongside the announcement of a new 7″ + colored vinyl edition of their most recent LP, which was named one of the best albums of 2020 by Rough Trade Shops, Paste, NME, Stereogum, PopMatters, KCRW, KEXP, RadioEins (Berlin) & a variety of other outlets. Nation of Language was also added to the BBC 6Music Playlist to kick off the year and plan to have a brand new album out by the fall.
