Upon moving to Nashville, Tennessee from Greenville, South Carolina in 2018 as a drummer in a local band, Isaia Huron knew he was at a pivotal moment in his life. He was flying the coop of comfort, partially confident in his untapped musical perspective as an artist and partially hesitant to give it a try, especially in a place deemed “Music City.” He had been haphazardly releasing tracks on Soundcloud for years, but this move would require way more belief in his mission.
After a year of gigging as a drummer, playing hours-long cover shows every weekend in dive bars around the south and midwest, Isaia secretly loved singing. He released his first project simply titled, “Three” (as its three tracks long), in the beginning of 2020. Hearing the simple but cutting writing on the standout track “Loving You Is A Mountain” mixed with its patient tempo is impressive for a new artist still finding his voice. Even so, this succinct project serves as a nice introduction to Isaia Huron: an ever-evolving artist, songwriter, and producer.
Just two months later on March 12th, 2020 (the eve of the stay-at-home order for most cities in America due to COVID-19), Isaia re-released 7 of his favorite Soundcloud drops from the past few years in a new compilation titled “Libbie.” The cathartic and melancholic track “Mary Ellen,” titled after an ex that he still longs for, brings us into his anxious cycle of unrequited love over raw acoustic guitars that sound fit for a campfire. As the songwriter and main producer himself, Isaia always aims to bring incongruous elements into harmony.
Following “Libbie,” Isaia has released two more tracks: a cover of DJ Snake & Justin Bieber’s “Let Me Love You” (Amazon Original) of which he brings into his own R&B world and an original track fit for a bridal entrance, “Somehow I Knew.” His new single, “Self!,” an upbeat track that exclaims the desire to be cuffed up, was just released and will be followed by a new EP.
