In addition to the playlist takeover, we dove right in and had a conversation with AKAI SOLO about their influences, personal insights, and more…
Q: Who/ what got you into music?
Kid Cudi got me into music. He was the big brother I never had that made it seem possible via his representation. Intrigued me enough to investigate and participate.
Q: What advice would you give to other artists trying to make it in the industry?
I don’t really have any advice considering I haven’t “made it” in the industry. Golden life advice in general is to abandon expectations for others. The disappointment that follows as a result of them not being met is quite the deterrent. A formidable opponent, ego always is. All that matters is doing genuine work. Take everything with a grain of salt and make sure your “brand” is not a far cry from who you actually are.
Q: What’s your favorite track on the playlist and why?
My favorite track on the playlist has to be “Curls”, I love DOOM and this track teaches me structure in a casual way. A lesson that never comes across as tedious with him as a teacher. The beat is a slap, Madlib put his entire body in the batter, not just a foot.
Q: If you could be a fruit, what fruit would you be and why?
The fruit that I feel like is probably a coconut only because of the necessary work required to acquire the flesh and juice. The reward is not handed out but rather one grinds for it. That’s how I see life’s truest treasures and my interiors guarded by a skeptical mind and exterior.
