If you’re an active social media user, then you don’t need to be told how important accurate image sizing is on socials. Social platforms change their preferred image sizing and formatting every year, so don’t get left behind! To help you out, here are the updated requirements for 2022…
Social Media Image Sizes for 2022
- Minimum image size: 180 x 180 pixels (Actual size used depends on device and usage: 170 x 170 (desktop), 128 x 128 (smartphones), 36 x 36 (feature phones), 32 x 32 (thumbnail)
- Cover image: Minimum 400 x 150 pixels
- Shared Image: 1,200 x 630
- Shared Link: 1,200 x 630 pixels
- Highlighted Image: 1,200 x 717 pixels
- Event Image: 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (Facebook will scale down to minimum dimensions: 470 × 174)
- Header Photo: 1,500 x 500 pixels
- Profile Photo: 400 x 400 pixels
- Twitter In-Stream Photos: Minimum to appear expanded: 440 x 220 pixels (a 2:1 ratio)
- Maximum file size: 5 MB for photos, and 5 MB for animated GIFs on mobile and 15 MB on the web.

- Photo Thumbnails: 161 x 161 pixels
- Instagram Stories: 1080 x 1920 pixels
- Photo Size: 1080 x 1080 pixels (square, horizontal); 1080 x 1350 pixels (vertical)
- Recommended Profile Photo: Between 400 x 400 and 20,000 x 20,000 pixels (Minimum upload size: 200 x 200 pixels)
- Personal Background Image: 1584 x 396 pixels
- LinkedIn Company Logo Image: 300 x 300 pixels (large logo), 60 x 60 pixels (small logo)
- LinkedIn Company Cover Images: 1536 x 768 pixels
- Shared Image or Link: 1104 x 736 pixels. Appears at 552 x 289 pixels
YouTube
- Profile Photo: Channel profile image size is 800 x 800, but displays as 98 x 98 pixels
- Channel Cover Photo: 2560 x 1440 pixels
YouTube Video Upload Guidelines state that:
- Videos must maintain a 16:9 aspect ratio.
- In order to qualify as full HD, your dimensions must be at least 1,280 x 720 pixels.
