Tips for Visiting the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴
- Pack Accordingly. Bring lightweight and breathable clothing suitable for the tropical climate, as well as essentials like sunscreen, insect repellent, and a reusable water bottle.
- Stay Hydrated. Make sure to drink plenty of bottled or purified water to stay hydrated, especially in the hot and humid weather. (FYI, it’s also recommended to be cautious of the tap water.)
- Learn Some Spanish. While many Dominicans speak English, especially in tourist areas, knowing some basic Spanish phrases can enhance your experience and help you communicate with locals! Even just a couple basic phrases will help you a lot.
- Remember To Exchange Currency. The currency used in the Dominican Republic is the Dominican Peso (DOP), so make sure to exchange currency at banks or authorized exchange offices for the best rates.
- Try The Local Food! You absolutely don’t want to miss out on some traditional Dominican dishes like mangu (mashed plantains), sancocho (hearty stew), and fresh seafood. 🤤 Don’t forget to try the local fruits and beverages like Presidente beer, mamajuana, and all the natural juices the island has to offer!
