Over 70% of independent musicians struggle with anxiety, depression and other mental health issues. Here at Symphonic, we try our best to provide as many helpful resources as possible to support our community (and beyond). During this year’s Mental Health Awareness month, we’d like to highlight the importance of mental health awareness by sharing some inspiring stories from our community in a short-form video. If you’re an artist who is passionate about mental health advocacy, we’d like to hear from you!
OPEN CALL: Mental Health Awareness Month Video
Concept:
For this year’s Mental Health Awareness month, we’d like to highlight the importance of mental health awareness by sharing some inspiring stories from our community, as well as providing additional resources for artists and music industry professionals alike.
To support these efforts, we will create a short-form video montage with submissions from artists encouraging others to speak about their mental health in an effort to destigmatize seeking help in this industry. Throughout this month, we will also be sharing a comprehensive list of mental health resources on our blog and newsletter.
How To Participate:
Film yourself HORIZONTALLY, answering the following questions in complete sentences. Please keep your answers as concise as possible. Place yourself in mid-range, meaning your rib cage and upwards should be visible in the shot. (Refer to this document for detailed instructions on how to film.)
- What does taking care of your mental health look like for you?
- Have you experienced any kind of “breaking point” when it comes to your mental health? – If so, what are some key factors that made you realize you needed help?
- How did you seek help?
- Music often serves as a source of comfort and inspiration for many. Have you experienced firsthand how music can positively impact mental health?
- For many years, there has been a stigma across creative industries surrounding mental health, and this outdated view can make it hard for people to reach out and seek help. – How do you think musicians can play a role in normalizing conversations about mental health?
- Are there any specific mental health resources or organizations you recommend for other musicians or fans struggling with mental health?
- What’s your best piece of advice for someone who is struggling with their mental health at the moment?
🚨 Please drop your video responses in this folder, labeled with your name, by May 8th. 🚨
