Apple Music is enhancing the quality targets of metadata received from preferred distributors in an effort to elevate the experience for listeners. To do so, we’re enabling some new requirements for artists. Here’s everything you need to know to ensure you’re up to date.
New Requirements For Delivering To Apple Music
Here’s what’s new…
Symphonic will, in the next few months, require each track delivered to Apple to have at least one role represented for each of the three Contributor groups:
- Writers: e.g., Lyricist, Composer, Arranger…
- Performers (solo and band members): e.g., Rap, Lead Vocals, 12-String Acoustic Guitar, Moog, Synth Bass, Drum Machine
- Production & Engineering: e.g., Producer, Recording Engineer, Mixing Engineer, Mastering Engineer, Immersive Engineer
In the meantime, we recommend adopting these practices proactively when preparing releases. Once implemented, you will be prompted to include the necessary roles when creating your releases. This ensures that musical contributors have a more prominent and reliable presence on Apple Music. (See additional specific details for Apple’s specifications here.)
“Do I have to edit all my past releases and supply these requirements?”
No! — You are not required to edit your past releases to supply this information. However, if you wish to do so, please follow these steps to edit your release. If you edit an older release for any reason, you will be prompted to fulfill these requirements at that time.
“If I deselected Apple on my releases, can I add Apple later on?”
Yes, you sure can. — If you would like to distribute to Apple in the future, you can edit your release, fulfill the updated requirements, and select Apple as a DSP before re-submitting the release.
