The music industry is constantly evolving, and here at Symphonic, so are we! That said, one area of rapid development is generative AI technology. In this post, we’d like to shine some light on this developing topic to keep things as clear as possible for our clients. Here are some things you need to know…
Everything You Need To Know About Symphonic’s New AI Policy
Let’s dive in…
As generative AI becomes more common in content creation, the guidelines and laws around it are evolving too. To stay ahead of these changes, we’re adding a few extra steps to how AI-generated content is handled in our services.
To maintain transparency, uphold ethical standards, and meet the disclosure requirements of our monetization partners, we ask clients to disclose details about AI usage in their projects before distribution within the SymphonicMS upload process. Whether your music or cover art is fully AI-generated or AI-assisted, we now require insight into how AI was used in your creative process.
Don’t worry, this will integrate smoothly into your upload process so it won’t add any extra hassle. All this does is ensure we approach AI usage responsibly while staying aligned with industry requirements and regulations.
What To Expect
From now on, during the asset upload process in the SMS, you’ll be prompted to indicate whether generative AI was used for audio and artwork on any new tracks. If you need to edit any of your live releases, you’ll be asked to provide this AI information before resubmitting.
Here’s an example of the question you’ll be asked about AI usage in audio files:
Why is this important?
The rise of generative AI in music creation has opened up new possibilities for artists, from composing original tracks to generating melodies, harmonies, cover art, and even lyrics. These tools offer exciting opportunities for creative exploration but also bring challenges around copyright, ownership, and ethical use. As the technology evolves, however, we understand that new guidelines and regulations will emerge, and we’re committed to staying informed and adapting quickly to any changes.
At Symphonic, we’re committed to making sure all content we distribute, whether AI-generated or not, respects intellectual property rights and doesn’t unfairly impersonate anyone. As AI in music continues to evolve, so will our policies, but our focus on responsible music distribution will always stay the same. Rest assured, we’ll keep you updated on any important changes as they come.
