Unfiltered: Full Interview with Tinywiings
Laura Catana (LC):
“We’re back with another episode of Unfiltered by Symphonic, the series where we sit down with real ones in the indie scene, and get into the music, the mindset, and the moments that shape them. Today, I’m happy to welcome Tinywiings. She’s a Canadian rapper, songwriter, and poet from Calgary, Alberta.”
“Tiny Wings brings fierce, fearless energy to everything she creates, blending hip hop, pop, and EDM with lyrics that celebrate female sexuality, independence, and radical self-confidence.”
“Let’s get into it…. What’s been going on? What’s happening in the world of Tiny?”
Tinywiings (T):

“I’ve just been writing! I just got back to Canada recently. I was in Philadelphia for a while, collaborating and visiting people. Then I came back to Calgary, went to Vancouver, and now I’m back in Calgary. So I’ve been all over, but mostly working on writing right now, getting ideas. I haven’t been in the studio much, just working on some new, exciting things.”
LC:
“You’ve been making music for a while… Did I also read you used to be a paramedic?”
T:
“Yeah, I did! It feels like a whole lifetime ago. I did it for quite a while. That was my childhood dream job. It was intense.”
LC:
“That’s quite a career change!”
T:
“Yeah, going from one world to another.”
LC:
“Is that still something you bring with you, that energy? Or is it a different part of your life?”
T:
“Definitely a different part of my life. It was a whole other chapter. I was a different person then. It was good for my character development. It gave me a lot of life experience. I learned a lot about myself. I do bring it with me as an artist, facing fears, adrenaline stuff.”
LC:
“When people hear Tinywiings, what do you want them to associate it with?”
T:
“Just feeling good. Authenticity. I have a variety of music, but most know my clubby bangers, the bad bitch music. That’s what people associate with my music… But if you dig deeper into the lyrics, there are more layers than just club stuff.”
LC:
“Nice. How long have you been making music as Tinywiings?”
T:
“I released my first song at the end of 2019, so I usually say 2020.”
LC:
“Time flies… It’s 2025 now… What terrified you early in your career that now feels second nature?”
T:
“Performing sober. I got sober two and a half years ago. Before, I always wrote, performed, and drank. I didn’t know if I could do it sober. Now, it’s so much better—less stress. I’ve conquered that fear.”
LC:
“We all curate what people see online, including me. Is there a part of your life or personality your fans rarely see?”
T:
“My family life… I don’t have kids, but lots of nieces and nephews. I’m a proud auntie and love hanging out with them. I don’t think fans know much about that side of me.”
LC:
“Any advice, music or life advice, you come back to when things get tough?”
T:
“I tell myself, ‘I didn’t come this far just to come this far. ‘ Any artist knows it’s up and down and frustrating. You have to keep going…”
“Sometimes I listen to my own music and think, I can’t quit now—I love this.”
LC:
“Was there one big risk you took that felt scary but paid off?”
T:
“Being honest about my struggles with addiction. Telling fans I was going to rehab. Switching gears to more real music, not just partying songs. I was nervous, but it resonated with people. My fans relate more, and I feel closer to them.”
LC:
“What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in yourself as you evolved?”
T:
“I’m more introverted than people think, especially now that I’m sober. Drinking was social for me. Now I love writing at home with my cat. My social battery runs out quicker. I still love performing and being with people, but getting there is different. I’m navigating this new part of myself.”
LC:
“Once you’re out on stage, do you love it?”
T:
“Yeah, it’s probably my favorite.”
LC:
“We’ve come far talking about mental health, but there’s more to do. Any advice you want to share?”
T:
“You’re not alone. Everyone struggles. There are people and resources out there. Just hold on. The world is wild, but you’re not alone.”
LC:
“What can fans expect from you this summer? Any new projects?”
T:
“Lots of new music coming. More content too—I’ve been slacking on videos, but I’m on it. Exciting summer bops and an EP later this year. All the writing will come to life soon…”
LC:
“Tell us about a recent moment that reminded you why you make music…”
T:
“In Philadelphia, I went to an open house for Pace Creators, a one-stop shop for artists. We had a ‘Pass the Aux’ session, where everyone shared music. Seeing people’s reactions to my music, and mine to theirs—that’s my favorite part. Meeting people and finding my crowd.”
LC:
“What music are you listening to now? Put us on someone new.”
T:
“My friend 86LOVE from Calgary. His song ‘Nice’ is my favorite right now. He has a unique style, kind of his own lane. You’ll know when you hear it. We have a song coming out together, too.”
LC:
“Alright, folks, thanks for kicking it with us today. This is Unfiltered with Symphonic. Much love to Tiny Wings for sharing her story, energy, and gems.”
“Catch you next time!”
T:
“This has been Tinywiings! You’re listening to Unfiltered with Symphonic.”
