What do you look for when signing new artists to Symphonic? / What genre do you focus on?
“When signing new artists to Symphonic, I look for authenticity and a strong artistic identity. I want to see artists who not only have talent but also a clear vision for their music and how they want to impact their audience. While Symphonic is genre-agnostic and supports a wide range of musical styles, I personally have a keen ear for house music and genres with deep roots in African sounds.”
What’s one service or tool at Symphonic that you think more artists should take advantage of?
“One tool that artists often overlook is the comprehensive data analytics Symphonic offers. Understanding your streaming data, audience demographics, and engagement metrics can be a game-changer. It empowers artists to make strategic decisions about releases, touring, and fan engagement.”
When talking to artists, what’s something you encourage them to prioritize for long-term success?
“Consistency is key. I always emphasize the importance of maintaining a steady presence, both musically and online. Building a career is a marathon, not a sprint, and consistently delivering quality content helps artists grow a loyal and engaged fanbase over time.”
What’s a common mistake you see artists or labels make when trying to grow their audience?
“One common mistake is neglecting to develop a brand narrative. Artists often focus solely on the music and forget that audiences also connect with stories. Building a cohesive brand that aligns with your sound and values helps create a deeper connection with listeners.”
What’s one trend you’re seeing in the industry that artists should be paying attention to right now?
“Genre blending is becoming increasingly popular. Listeners are more open to diverse sounds that fuse traditional genres with modern influences. Artists who are willing to experiment with their sound are finding fresh ways to stand out and reach new audiences.”
What’s been the most rewarding part of working with independent artists at Symphonic?
“Witnessing the evolution of an artist’s journey from the ground up is truly inspiring. Being able to provide the tools and resources they need to thrive independently, while still maintaining their creative control, is incredibly rewarding. It’s about empowering them to own their narrative.”
What advice would you give an artist who’s just starting to think seriously about their music?
“Be intentional about your vision and don’t rush the process.”
Who are you listening to/loving right now?
“Baby – beatsbyhand – Soul Candi Records”
