Starting in the beginning of 2021, the MLC will be administering blanket mechanical licenses to eligible streaming and DSP’s in the United States. What does that mean for you? The MLC is hosting a webinar to break it down…
The MLC Presents: How Self-Administered Songwriters Can Get Started
What is the MLC?
Essentially, the Mechanical Licensing Collective maintains the world’s most thorough database of music composition copyrights and their owners. Additionally, they collect mechanical royalties from digital music streaming services and transmit those royalties to copyright holders based on the ownership claims.
To put it simply, they get hard-working artists like you your money from royalties.
“In January of 2021, The MLC will begin issuing blanket mechanical licenses to eligible streaming and download services (digital service providers or DSPs) in the United States. The MLC will collect the royalties due under those licenses from the DSPs and pay songwriters, composers, lyricists and music publishers.”
On September 3rd, the MLC will be hosting a webinar to discuss the process and how to get involved.
