What’s your approach to helping artists build a long-term fanbase rather than just getting streams?
“My approach is always to start small and own your local audience before branching out to other cities and demographics so you have a solid foundation to work with and start from when it comes to advertising, which is extremely important to the success of your campaigns.”
“I also recommend creating best practices to own your audience, whether that be a customer list, a phone number list, or both – it is paramount to the success of your future in today’s privacy-heavy internet.”
What’s one underrated marketing tactic independent artists should be using more?
“Paired with a solid advertising campaign, third-party playlisting is a great needle mover when it comes to having numbers in the first few days of release.”
Can you share an example of an artist (or label) you’ve worked with that represents a unique or niche genre? How did you tailor your marketing strategy for them?
“Galen Tipton (ASMR). I had never worked with ASMR before meeting Galen, and finding his audience was a struggle. Still, we found a home for him on TikTok, where fans were using his sounds in their content and were able to acquire a TikTok allocation to support his sounds on the platform.”
Tell us about a campaign you worked on that you’re particularly proud of. What made it special?
“Veronica Lewis. Working with Veronica and Nancy to break her out of her old audience and into a new, fresh one that fit her new sound while helping her grow in that new space. I was very happy with the steady growth the campaign cadence provided, and the wonderful feedback I received from both of them when we completed the job was as wholesome as it gets.”

“This one was special because of how genuine both were throughout the process and how eager they were to learn about their results so they could improve – many don’t seem to care, but this was truly refreshing!”
What’s one service or tool at Symphonic that you think more artists should take advantage of?
“ADVERTISING 😀”
What’s been the most rewarding part of working with independent artists at Symphonic?
“Watching their career grow from where we start working with them and where they end up. It’s truly rewarding to hear a client say you helped grow their career. That’s why I enjoy waking up every morning and going to work.”
What advice would you give an artist who’s just starting to think seriously about marketing their music?
“Learn how to think rationally when spending your money and focus on how the expense is going to affect your future growth. Is it worth it, or is something else more worth it to you?”
Who are some of your favorite artists right now?
“REAPER or Billy Gillies (honorable mentions: Sam Wolfe & Justin Hawkes!)”
