SOUNDCLOUD ACQUIRES RIGHTS MANAGEMENT AND DISTRIBUTION COMPANY REPOST NETWORK
According to SoundCloud, “high-performing, emerging creators” will now have access to Repost Network’s invite-only tools and services like streaming distribution, analytics dashboards, content protection and more.
The deal is expected to close in the coming weeks.

YouTube is changing how subscriber counts are displayed, possibly shifting its culture
YouTube is introducing a major change to the way real-time subscriber counts are displayed, which could prevent analytics sites like Social Blade from actively displaying whether creators are gaining — or, more importantly, losing — subscribers.
Instead of seeing a YouTuber’s exact subscriber count (for example, 10,500,000), people will see a flat 10 million. This may not seem like a major change for people who aren’t invested in the messy lives of YouTube creators, but for a culture reliant on active subscriber counts as a way of proving who’s winning or losing when drama occurs, real-time subscriber counts are crucial.

Music could make Snapchat more like TikTok
Snapchat could soon get more musical.
Snap has been “in talks” with a number of record labels in an effort to broker deals that would let the company add more music to its app, according to a recent report in The Wall Street Journal. The talks are not yet final but have “intensified in recent weeks.”

METADATA IS THE BIGGEST LITTLE PROBLEM PLAGUING THE MUSIC INDUSTRY
In the music world, metadata most commonly refers to the song credits you see on services like Spotify or Apple Music, but it also includes all the underlying information tied to a released song or album, including titles, songwriter and producer names, the publisher(s), the record label, and more. That information needs to be synchronized across all kinds of industry databases to make sure that when you play a song, the right people are identified and paid. And often, they aren’t.
Metadata sounds like one of the smallest, most boring things in music. But as it turns out, it’s one of the most important, complex, and broken, leaving many musicians unable to get paid for their work.
